I don’t attempt desserts very often, much due to their inevitable sugar content, and as I seem to create my day around what’s best for my skin (most days, not holiday-days, which, so far consist of a diet of ice cream sandwiches and Norwegian candy) I try to steer clear of them (reasons to why found here), or at least not spend time making them in my own kitchen.
This dessert however, does not contain sugar, no, it contains honey! And honey is OK, honey is actually great! The main component here is Greek styled yogurt, and with the addition of fresh strawberries marinated in a cinnamon pepper mixture this desert actually becomes an amazing skin-boosting treat! Win win win win all around!
Greek-Yogurt is great because it contains less sugar (lactose) than low-fat yoghurts, and probiotics- the “friendly bacteria” found naturally in our digestive tract, which is associated to a number of health benefits including boosting the immunesystem. All yogurts are excellent sources of calcium, potassium, protein, zinc, and vitamins B6 and B12. What distinguishes Greek yogurt is its thicker, creamier texture because the liquid whey is strained out. Also, it has twice the protein content of regular yogurts, and because of this has been said to aid weight-loss, despite a higher fat content.
Honey, a dreaded thing of my childhood, something my mother would add to teas when I was ill, and a bread spread that soaked the bread wet with its runny sweetness. As a grown-up (most of the time anyway..) I’ve come to love this sweet golden goo! It has antioxidant properties, contains the whole vitamin B specter, and has even been shown to have cancer-protective effects when eaten regularly and before cancer occurs! There is now a sizeable evidence that honey is a natural immune booster, natural anti-inflammatory agent, natural antimicrobial agent, natural cancer “vaccine,” and natural promoter for healing chronic ulcers and wounds. Strawberries. Nutrients found in strawberries include vitamin A, C and B6, fiber, potassium, folate and various antioxidants and flavonoids, making it a skin super food! These nutrients are also important in boosting your immune system against diseases like cardiovascular diseases and cancers. Strawberries surpass the super fruits like apples, oranges and bananas, in terms of providing the most nutrients. For example, comparing the Vitamin C level in 100g of strawberries and 100g of oranges, strawberries exceed oranges by 10mg. Studies have shown that regular intake of strawberries can improve skin and hair conditions. They help you lose weight, due to its high fiber content and aspartic acid, so they are often included in a weight loss diet plan.

Make your own version of this desert here. I used Akacia honey, and a little less than the recipe says, as well as a little squirt in the strawberry marinade. The cinnamon is my own addition.
