I first heard about this skin cleansing brush through an online interview with Leighton Meester, available in Norwegian here; in which she told of her newest beauty purchase, the Mia Clarisonic. I remember she was rather convincing as to how great of an investment it was, which led me to think “If its good enough for Leighton, it’s definitely good enough for me!” I generally jump on anything and everything as long as someone with good skin say they like it. Its my greatest weakness; that and chocolate..
Leighton has amazing skin, much of which is undoubtedly due to a mix of good genes, proper skin care habits, and lets face it; regular visits to the best dermatologists and aestheticians in Hollywood.
I bought my Mia approximately 3 months ago. I decided to go for a small pink Mia, which is the travel version, because I’ll be changing locations a lot this upcoming year, and I’d rather invest in the bigger size which is both a face and a body brush, when I’m not so much of a homeless hobo.
The Clarisonic Cleansing System was developed by the same people that developed the electrical toothbrush, and works much the same way.
It runs on a rechargeable battery, and according to the disclaimer: Uses a patented sonic frequency of more than 300 movements per second to gently, yet thoroughly remove 6X more makeup and 2X more dirt and oil than cleansing with your hands alone.
Summed up buy the manufacturer, the benefits of sonic cleansing are:
- Removes 6X more makeup than manual cleansing
- Leaves skin feeling and looking smoother
- Removes impurities that keep creams and serums from working their best
- Gentle enough to use twice a day
- Reduces oily areas, dry skin patches and blemishes
- Minimizes the appearance of visible pores
Although it states its mild enough to use twice daily, I found the gentle-head brush to be too abrasive on my skin used twice a day. I decreased it to once every night and had great results with that. I am considering buying the delicate-head brush next time, as you need to change brush heads every 3 months.
I have experienced all of the above benefits, including reduction of pore size, which was the main reason I bought it in the first place. I also enjoy the squeaky clean feeling you get afterwards, and it was a god-send in winter when I suddenly had small dry patches popping up all over my face. I’ve also noticed that breakouts are behaving better after washing with my Mia, and its great as a pre-treatment before a facemask.
I especially think it’s a good investment if you suffer from acne, uneven skin tone, dry patches, or use makeup on a daily basis.
I prefer using mine at night, because that’s the time when I use my most active products, and by using the brush before application, your skin will more readily absorb what you put on it, making the ingredients reach their destinations within the skin better and faster.
It is important to state that you should use it with a non-abrasive cleanser, such as:
Dermalogica Ultracalming Cleanser 250ml/8.3oz, $46 from Strawberrynet or Perricone ultracalming cleanser found for $49 and it ships free from Beutybay, here: Beauty Bay. And never ever with a physical scrub.
I’m very happy with my little Mia, and can’t wait to try the body brush head as well, as I think it would be great alternative to scrubbing and bodybrushing which I find seriously tiring and tedious!
